Coronavirus infection Mouthwash can potentially destroy the COVID-19 outer layer

Transmission of coronavirus could be prevented by the use of common mouthwash. The study indicates that mouth may play a significant role in curving down the rate of infection globally.

Medical experts have not yet discovered a coronavirus cure but new developments are helping to prevent additional infections.

Several ingredients are what makeup mouthwash including povidone-iodine, ethanol, and cetyl pyridinium. The scientists, however, pointed out that further research is needed as they are still uncertain as to how long mouthwash components can retain their ability to interact with mouth biomembranes.

"Safe use of mouthwash-as in gargling-has not been considered by public health authorities in the UK so far," said Valerie O'Donnell, the lead author of the study and a professor at Cardiff University. She said there are enough virucidal ingredients in some mouthwashes that could effectively destroy lipids in similar enveloped viruses based on test-tube experiments and limited clinical studies.

In February2020, The World Health Organization (WHO) has explained that there is no clear evidence to indicate that mouthwash will prevent novel coronavirus infections. Many bacteria can be dissolved in the saliva of the mouth by certain mouthwash brands for a few minutes. Listerine, one of the mouthwash's leading brands, has explained that rinsing your mouth with Listerine doesn't kill the infection.
